Liposuction (Lipoplasty/Suction Lipectomy)

Since its introduction in the 1980s, liposuction has become one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Hamacher or Dr. Bernsten, you can be assured of not only the best results, but also the safest procedures. Liposuction is performed by first applying a special solution to the area of concern, which allows for access to the fatty tissue as well as reduction of bleeding and improved anesthesia. Special instruments, called cannulas, are used to remove the fatty tissue with suction. A popular name for this procedure is liposculpture. Many fancy names for these types of procedures are often used for advertising purposes. Dr. Hamacher and Dr. Bernsten perform these and other special applications of liposuction, tailored to your wishes, to achieve the most optimal results.

Following liposuction at Madison Plastic Surgery, a compressive garment is worn to help ensure a well-contoured result. Recovery from this procedure is usually rapid and easy, with a very high rate of patient satisfaction.

Personalized Care

Our doctors know that all patients are different, both in their body shapes and in what they wish to achieve with liposuction. We take as much time as necessary during every pre-operative consultation to learn what each patient wants to liposuction to do for them, and to decide which technique is best. In this way, every one of our patients enjoys completely customized treatment designed with his or her specific goals in mind.

After liposuction surgery, compression garments and antibiotics maybe needed to facilitate the healing process. Patients are encouraged to walk soon after surgery in the home every few hours. A patient may return to work in a few days depending on the procedure and what kind of work they do. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for a few weeks post-operatively.

Results of Liposuction

Results are visible immediately, and improvement often continues as swelling subsides during the first three months.

We make sure that scars from the liposuction cannula insertion point are small and inconspicuous.
